All, with opportunities, can reach unlimited goals.

The Parent Assess Assessment helps identify the support needs of parents with additional needs, ensuring services are accessible, fair, and tailored to each family.

This is a structured assessment designed to support parents with additional needs by identifying strengths, challenges, and areas where extra support may be helpful. The goal of this assessment is to ensure parents receive the right level of understanding, guidance, and services to support both their own wellbeing and their parenting role.

This assessment focuses on the parent’s experiences, needs, and daily functioning rather than evaluating parenting ability alone.

Purpose of the Parent Assess Assessment

  • The Parent Assess Assessment is used to:

  • Identify additional support needs that may impact parenting

  • Understand a parent’s strengths and challenges

  • Inform support planning, referrals, or services

  • Promote positive outcomes for parents and families

  • Ensure supports are fair, appropriate, and individualized

The assessment is strengths-based and aims to empower parents, not judge them.

What the Assessment May Cover

The Parent Assess Assessment may explore areas such as:

  • Daily living skills and routines

  • Communication and understanding information

  • Emotional wellbeing and stress levels

  • Access to supports and resources

  • Learning or processing needs

  • Physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges

  • Confidence and capacity in managing parenting responsibilities

  • Environmental or social factors that may affect parenting

Questions are designed to understand what supports may help parents succeed, rather than focusing on deficits.

What to Expect

  • The assessment is completed by the parent, sometimes with assistance if needed

  • It may be completed online, on paper, or with guided support

  • It typically takes 30–45 minutes, depending on individual needs

  • All information is treated as confidential

Support can be provided during the assessment if reading, comprehension, or communication assistance is required.

How the Information Is Used

  • Information from the Parent Assess Assessment helps professionals:

  • Identify reasonable adjustments or supports

  • Develop individualized support plans

  • Inform service coordination or referrals

  • Ensure parents are understood within their context

  • Reduce barriers to accessing appropriate services

The assessment is one part of a broader understanding and may be considered alongside other information where appropriate.

Our Commitment

We recognise that parents with additional needs bring valuable strengths to their families. This assessment is designed to ensure parents are supported, respected, and included, and that services reflect individual circumstances rather than assumptions.
