Independent Advocacy for Children Within Statutory Processes
Our Children’s Advocacy Services provide independent, child-centred support to ensure that children’s wishes and feelings are heard and appropriately considered within statutory and safeguarding processes.
We work alongside local authorities, education settings, and partner agencies to support children and young people to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.
Purpose of Children’s Advocacy
Children’s advocacy supports statutory duties by ensuring that children:
Are informed and supported to express their views
Are involved in assessments, reviews, and decision-making
Are treated fairly and in line with safeguarding responsibilities
Advocacy is delivered independently and in the child’s best interests.
Statutory Context
Our children’s advocacy services support processes including:
Child in Need and Child Protection processes
Looked After Children reviews
Safeguarding enquiries and conferences
Care planning and review meetings
Education-related statutory meetings
Services align with safeguarding frameworks and statutory guidance.
Role of the Advocate
A children’s advocate may:
Support children to understand processes and decisions
Facilitate participation in meetings and reviews
Ensure wishes and feelings are clearly recorded
Provide independent challenge where appropriate
Advocates do not make decisions on behalf of the child.
